Café terrace at night by the famous dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) features his iconic depiction of a starry night. His rendering of the constellations is so precise that it is possible to pinpoint the date of the painting to September 16-17, 1888. True to form, he expresses the night sky in a blaze of emotion and color, without any touch of black whatsoever. Instead, the night sky is awash with beautiful blue, violet and green, intensified by the pale sulphur yellow and lemon green glow of the lighted square below. Van Gogh painted café terrace at night in the evening in arles, France. He set up his easel beside the neighboring building, at the north-east corner of the place du forum, so as to capture the outdoor patio of the café terrace in its entirety.
